Date night ideas for almost married couples

In reality, planning your wedding is far from the blissful, fun and romantic experience that it’s made out to be. The truth is, it’s stressful and hard work, but with a dream wedding day at the end of it, you’ll still look back on the wedding planning process with fond memories.

Making the wedding process perfect, or as perfect as it can be, comes down to the two of you. Strengthening your relationship during this stressful planning period will keep you both sane and the wedding planning process successful.

It’s important to take some time off as a couple in the midst of wedding planning chaos, especially if you’re in the throes of wedding planning during the current climate as the nation emerges from lockdown. Here are a few inexpensive date nights that won’t break the wedding budget, so you can both let off some steam, reconnect even when planning pressure is on, and ultimately set the foundations for a happy marriage.

Pack a picnic

With the weather warming, now couldn’t be a better time to head outdoors. Packing a picnic is the perfect way to relax in nature, and there are a number of ways you can up the romance when dining alfresco. Metropolitan Girls share their romantic picnic ideas and it all starts with the location:

“When choosing a place for your picnic date, here’s a rule of thumb: pick a place where you and your date totally feel comfortable at. It can be at the beach where you first met, or at the park where you first set eyes on your bae… No matter what place you pick, make sure that it’s a place where you two can enjoy each other’s company and make great memories together.”

Get active

Lazing about in the summer sunshine isn’t for everyone. If you’d prefer a more active date, hit a biking or hiking trail.

There’s nothing more romantic and enjoyable than doing something you love together. If you love being out in nature, head to a favourite outdoor spot or explore pastures new on your upcoming date night/day.

Take a class

If the weather isn’t in the best shape, as you’d expect here in the UK, why not get active together at an exercise class?

Whether you’re a yoga bunny or not, attending a couples yoga class is a great option and will do so much more for you than make you more flexible. According to psychotherapist and certified yoga instructor Julia Lehrman, couples yoga strengthens your body and your bond. Many couples enjoy better relationship satisfaction, enhanced intimacy, improved communication, increased trust, and reduced stress as a result of regular couples yoga classes.

If you don’t have a couples yoga class near you or want to keep costs down, you can recreate an exercise class at home. YouTube is full of exercise tutorials.

Stay in

There’s nowhere you’ll both be more comfortable than at home. Create a home cinema experience in your very own home and stock up on your favourite treats. You can even make a meal of it by ordering a takeaway or cooking a takeaway style meal together.

Travel together

A well-timed night or weekend away is a great way to recharge and up the romance levels. Visit a city you’ve always wanted to visit or travel to a place that you love not too far away from home. There are so many fantastic UK staycations to explore at the moment so you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a romantic trip.

Top tip – ban all talk of your fairy tale wedding to concentrate on your relationship in the present during your trip.
