When devising your order of the day, the timing of your ceremony is pretty important. The most popular time to get married in the UK is between 1pm and 2pm, yet there’s one wedding type that’s growing in popularity that has a very different timeline.
Held from 3pm onwards, twilight weddings offer a more relaxed and romantic celebration for couples looking to tie the knot a little differently. A ceremony at sunset is a stunning way to kickstart proceedings, while the later start means you’ll have plenty of time to prepare. The shorter timeline equals good things for your wedding budget too as The Wedding Guide explains:
“If you are a couple operating on a budget or simply do not want to spend a fortune on your wedding, a twilight wedding tends to be a cheaper option than a traditional wedding. As you are cutting out the wedding breakfast and other elements, the overall price of the package is not as expensive. Saving your money may also allow you to relocate it to other areas for your big day. It could mean that you can buy that dream wedding dress.”
Whether you choose to book in advance or last minute, hosting a twilight wedding is a great option. Here’s how to get started with planning yours…
Pick your venue
First and foremost, you should select a wedding venue that can accommodate your twilight wedding. Thankfully, you don’t have to search too far to discover a beautiful wedding venue to host your unique sunset ceremony and reception.
We love hosting twilight weddings as much as traditional celebrations – there is after all something extra romantic about marrying as the sun sets!
Time it right
If you have your heart set on that stunning natural glow that only comes at sunset, you’ll need to time your ceremony and wider wedding timeline just right. Decide exactly what you want to be doing at sunset, whether that’s enjoying your wedding breakfast, hitting the dancefloor for your first dance, saying “I do”, or simply raising a toast, and go from there.
For the best and most striking lighting, schedule your sunset showstopper around 30 to 40 minutes before the sun is due to go down.
Light the way
Hosting an equally beautiful twilight reception is easy with the right lighting. Use lanterns and candles to create your own enchanting scenes both indoors and out. Please be aware all naked flames and candles must be fully encased at the sides, with the tip of the flame at least 5cm below the rim of the encasement in accordance with Bourton Hall’s Naked Flame Policy.
Don’t forget your choice of entertainment can light up the sky at your twilight wedding too, with firework displays, fire dancers and light shows all great options for couples hosting evening soirées.
