How to accessorise your wedding look for the cooler season

Accessorise your wedding look for the cooler season

Whether planning your wedding in advance or last minute, being prepared for all the great British weather throws at you is important.

Each season offers its fair share of weather-related challenges, with even those marrying in summer needing extra supplies and accessories to stay cool and comfortable on their wedding days. With autumn now in full swing, couples tying the knot this season have a very different set of hurdles to overcome.

You shouldn’t let unpredictable conditions, increased rainfall and dipping temperatures put a dampener on your day however! As well as incorporating touches that keep your wedding guests warm, the following can be used to help you accessorise your big day look with the cooler season in mind…

The jacket

If your wedding dress code is a little more laid back, a jacket is the perfect accompaniment to your wedding look whether you are a bride or groom. From cool leather and personalised denim to a classic wool or tweed number, a jacket is the perfect way to keep those autumn or winter wedding chills at bay, and you’ll look super stylish too!

The tux

While technically a jacket, we thought the tuxedo cover-up deserves a section of its own! Here Elle explains why bridal tailoring is the ideal choice for a wedding, whatever the season:

“If you love the nod to both nonchalance and power that a two-piece brings, consider wearing a suit to your wedding. When you take the uncomfortable corsetry and heavy skirts out of the equation, suddenly you’ll feel a hell of a lot less nervous walking down the aisle – and you won’t feel restricted during the dinner or dancing, either. The best advice we have? Buy a white suit for your wedding and you’ll definitely wear it again.”

Bridal suits have of course been huge news on the bridal scene for a number of years now, but autumn and winter brides looking to enjoy the best of both worlds – i.e. a beautiful wedding dress and a spot of tailoring – should accessorise with a tuxedo jacket.

The scarf

A scarf is a great choice for both brides and grooms, and thankfully, there are tons of styles and shades to choose from to complement your wider wedding theme and colour scheme. Scarves also come in a range of materials, from warming wool to classic silk.

The cover-up

Whether opting for a cape, capelet, shrug or shawl, the right cover-up provides great warmth and comfort while enhancing the wider bridal look. You’ll also find them in a variety of designs and fibres, including faux fur, chiffon, lace, sequins, wool, felt and even feathers.

The pullover

A pullover or jumper is a fantastic addition to any groom’s attire, and it’s so easy to incorporate into a suited look. Simply switch the waistcoat of your three-piece suit for a vest or sweater to add an extra layer of cosiness.
