Should I take out wedding insurance?

The average wedding day doesn’t come without its challenges. Making sure those hurdles can be overcome and don’t manifest as these common wedding regrets however is easier said than done! With this in mind, being prepared with a plan A, B and C is a tack taken by many marrying couples and can offer ultimate peace of mind when planning and hosting the biggest day of your life.

Safeguarding your big day with wedding insurance is one thing we would recommend. Whilst the Bourton Hall team is here to support you, even if things don’t go to plan, wedding insurance can deliver the protection you need in a wide range of scenarios.

Still not convinced? Here we share all the plus points of taking out wedding insurance so you can prepare yourself and your wedding celebration for anything.

It really is the protection you need

The right wedding insurance product offers pretty extensive coverage. With a comprehensive policy, you’re covered for cancellations as well as unforeseen weather events, which is certain to mean a sigh of relief for ultra-organised brides-to-be and hands-on grooms.

Wedding insurance protection doesn’t end there. It can even provide coverage for illness and accidents as MoneySavingExpert describes:

“You cancel because key people can’t make it due to illness, jury service, accident or death – unless due to a pre-existing condition. This applies to the couple getting married or someone in the wedding party (close family, the bridesmaids or best man) as long as any illness wasn’t caused by a pre-existing condition. Some insurers also provide cover if 50%+ of your guests can’t make the wedding because of serious weather conditions, which causes you to postpone.”

Safeguard against supplier slip-ups

It’s not just your wedding budget and party that can be protected with the right policy. The collaborations that make your wedding day possible can also be ensured.

Even the most reliable and top-rated wedding suppliers can experience hiccups. If these issues mean they have to let you down on your special day, your wedding insurance could help you recover the costs and salvage your day.

The same applies to wedding goods too. Your wedding rings, floral arrangements, cake, attire and even your gifts are safeguarded against damage, loss and theft.

Insurance policies have their limitations

Like any type of insurance, wedding insurance policies have their limitations. They tend not to cover cancellations where only a small aspect of your wedding plans has fallen through. Cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, financial difficulties or cold feet are also not covered.

Understanding what’s covered – and what’s not – is the key to finding a wedding insurance policy that works for you and your needs.

There are tons of great insurers to explore

With wedding insurance able to be taken out up to two years in advance of your wedding date, you’ve got plenty of time to find an insurance policy that suits your needs and budget. By taking out wedding insurance early, you’re also covered for longer, with selected policies even covering expenses incurred during the planning stages.

Once you’ve shortlisted your favourite wedding insurers, take a deep dive into the policy details before you decide. If something is unclear, don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Wedding insurance is now a requirement

While the advantages of taking out wedding insurance are many, recent changes mean insurance is no longer a wedding want but a big day need.

As of January 2024, all couples marrying at Bourton Hall or any other Country House Weddings venue MUST acquire wedding insurance within 21 days of booking. Failure to do so means their wedding will be cancelled.
