Going for gold: how to use metallics in your autumn wedding décor

Metallics always make an appearance in wedding schemes, with both modern and traditional themes sporting a metallic touch or two to add a little glitz and glamour or stylish sophistication to proceedings.

Whilst summer was all about keeping things light and bright, autumn weddings are using metallics in an entirely different way. From classic gold and shimmery silver to rustic copper and trendy rose gold, here’s how to use metallics to make your autumn wedding venue the glittering, mesmerising scene it should be.

A subtle hint

You don’t have to go crazy with metallics to make a big impact at your autumn wedding. Even a subtle hint of gold in your tablescape will ensure a statement that shines through. Adorn your menus, and table plans and place cards with gold calligraphy. Gold script looks extra elegant on a black background too.

A rust-ic finish

Your choice of metallic doesn’t have to be particularly bold. Sometimes it’s the understated metal tones that shine brighter than the rest. Rustic wedding ideas are big news during autumn, so it makes sense to go back to basics with your metallics.

Rusted metallics that have lost their lustre are a surprisingly stunning addition to autumn wedding schemes. They look great when paired with more demure colours – like this season’s favourite shade blush pink – especially if you’re bringing the outdoors in with your wedding décor by adding lots of greenery.

A classic pairing

Gold is a metallic that looks beautiful with a plethora of other shades. There’s one colour pairing that is simply stunning, however, and it’s a top trend for autumn and winter. We’ll let  Yeah Weddings explain more about the classic scheme that’s taking the autumn wedding scene by storm:

“Navy looks good on everyone, and gold accents make for a chic, formal affair. A dark navy blue can fit with various themes, from farmhouse rustic with florals to modern and sleek with metallic notes. Navy and gold make for a classic combo, but navy also looks good with silver, grey, white, or even beige-y natural accents.”

If navy and gold aren’t autumnal enough for you, add burgundy and burnt orange tones into the mix for a colour scheme that pops and exudes warmth.

A mixed-up palette

Who says you have to choose just one metallic as an accent colour for your autumn wedding décor? Mixing things up with multiple metallic shades looks as opulent as it sounds.

Whether combining metallics that usually sit at either end of the scale, such as silver mercury glass and yellow gold, or bringing together similar tones like rose gold, copper and bronze, adding mixed metals to creative centrepieces and your wider wedding tables will ensure a truly eclectic finish.

A whimsical wonderland

Copper is another popularly used metallic, and it looks extra autumnal when paired with teal. Bold and unusual, the teal and copper colour combo isn’t for the faint-hearted. It does however offer the refined, autumn-inspired finish that can brighten up any wedding scene in the most wonderful, whimsical way.
