Whether woven into boho-inspired braids, used to add a flourish to reception tables or playing a starring role in the bridal bouquet, your choice of wedding flowers matters, and the summer season offers plenty of inspiration in that department!
We recently covered the most underrated wedding flowers and foliage, and we’re back to explore the other end of the spectrum. So, what are the UK’s most popular wedding flowers?
Roses
As the symbol of passionate love, admiration and purity it should come as no surprise that the rose is one of the UK’s most popular wedding flowers. Symbolism aside, the rose’s beauty, timeless elegance, versatility and year-round availability provide plenty more reasons to include this variety in your wedding scheme. Roses also excite all the senses, with their rich fragrance truly unmistakable and utterly magical.
Peonies
Another in-season flower that’s a joy to work with for florists and marrying couples alike is the peony. Peonies are often described as the perfect wedding flower, and for good reason.
It’s a variety that will never fall out of fashion, and it’s available in pretty much every colour to ensure the perfect complement to any wedding theme or colour scheme. The fresh, fragrant peony works in harmony with other flower varieties and foliage too, ensuring beautiful results every time.
Lilies
Lilies are wedding flower classics that have long been popular amongst brides- and grooms-to-be. Using lilies in your floral arrangements this year however, will help you embrace a very popular wedding trend as The Knot describes:
“Along the same lines of wispy, loose arrangements, long-stemmed flowers and designs will be another wedding flower trend to watch in 2024. These flower arrangements give off the illusion that they were put together without too much thought (even though behind the scenes, we know that’s not the case)—think bouquets of long-stemmed roses or a centrepiece filled with towering calla lilies or gladiolus.”
Hydrangeas
Unlike roses, peonies and lilies, hydrangeas haven’t always been featured in the top five wedding flowers. A feature in cottage gardens up and down the country, the hydrangea is becoming more widely used in the wedding industry.
These beautiful blooms are regarded for their volume, vivid colouring, romance and rustic nature, and look fabulous when used as centrepieces or in bouquets.
Sunflowers
The humble sunflower is no shrinking violet. Its iconic size and colour have seen it become the go-to for couples wanting their arrangements to stand out. Particularly popular for summer weddings, the sunflower’s edible status means it can be used much more widely than other varieties. Its seeds make great favours, while pressed and dried sunflower petals can be used to decorate your wedding cake too.
Whether used as a single-stem arrangement or alongside smaller flowers and other greenery, the stunning sunflower is a fantastic and hugely popular choice for brides and grooms in the UK.
