Here’s how to dress for an autumn wedding

How to dress for an autumn wedding.

With October the most popular month to tie the knot, many people will be pondering what to wear to an upcoming wedding right about now.

While summer dresses and linen suits were all the rage last season, dressing for an autumn wedding (and the cooler weather conditions) is a little trickier. To help you on your way to a stylish wedding look, we’re here to share the golden rules of dressing for those autumn nuptials…

Remember, florals aren’t just for spring and summer

Spring and summer may be distant memories but this doesn’t mean floral prints should be left behind. Hobbs explains how to rock florals during the colder months:

“Florals may be synonymous with spring, but beautiful blooms on deeper, darker bases evoke an air of romance that feels just right for autumn and winter weddings. What’s more, a perennially chic floral print dress boasts the longevity to be restyled for a multitude of dates in your diary.”

There are so many beautiful and elegant floral maxi dresses in the most stunning autumn colours, with deep purple, rusty orange, forest green, burgundy and marigold yellow all fantastic options for autumn wedding guests.

Incorporate a little extra coverage

Contending with dipping temperatures is a reality for every autumn wedding guest. In addition to accessorising with a cover-up (such as a cape, shawl, jacket or overcoat) that you can whip on and off whenever you need to, choosing an outfit that has sleeves will provide extra comfort.

From one-shoulder midis and batwing sleeves to full sleeves and shoulder draping, the possibilities are endless when ensuring an autumn-proof look.

Embrace metallics for a showstopping flourish

Every wedding guest has to tow the line between creating a stylish look that showcases their personal flair and ensuring a tasteful ensemble that’s respectful to the specified wedding dress code. Letting your accessories do the work is the key to achieving just that and dressing for success whatever time of year it is.

As the season of sparkle, adding a little glitz and glam is something we’d certainly recommend. Go classic with crystals or dazzle with the jewel tones that are always on trend during autumn to hone a wedding look that is oh-so-you.

Never, ever wear white

This probably goes without saying, but we’ll remind you anyway! While experimenting with colour is always a great option when dressing for a wedding, there’s one colour that is always off-limits – white! Even if your bride has gone for a coloured wedding dress, you should avoid wearing white at all costs.

When choosing an ensemble that suits the occasion, the wedding dress code as well as the location and the time of the day are key considerations. To keep those chills at bay, you should also opt for thicker fabrics to guarantee a season-appropriate outfit. Velvet for instance is a great fabric choice and one that exudes the luxury vibe many wedding days are all about.
