Forget June, July and August! September is the best month to tie the knot

When picking the perfect wedding date, many couples look to summer (and its promise of better weather) to make this very important decision. It should therefore come as no surprise that summer is considered the peak wedding season here in the UK.

June, July and August are the most popular months to tie the knot as a result. But as recent studies have found, September is all set to become the top month to marry in England and Wales.

According to this ONS survey, 1,075 weddings per day took place throughout September at last count, second to August’s 1,304 weddings per day, and this figure is growing. A more recent study found that the most popular date to marry was 1st September with an average of 1,552 weddings taking place.

So, why is September becoming the best month to tie the knot? Here we answer that very question…

The weather is not too hot or too cold

Whilst August can see temperatures climb too often to dizzying heights, leaving brides, grooms and guests feeling the heat on their special days, the weather during September is pleasant without being too hot or too cold.

No one can predict the weather, but by choosing a September wedding date, you’re more likely to enjoy comfortably warm temperatures than blistering heat.

There are better venue and supplier availability

With the most popular month to marry behind you, September promises better availability. This means you’ll have an increased chance of getting the wedding date you want at the venue of your dreams and securing the local wedding suppliers that will help to make your day extra special.

With September weddings becoming more and more popular, however, booking the date you want at the venue you desire should still be something you tick off your wedding planning to-do list early. For June, September and October weddings, booking your venue 12 to 14 months in advance is recommended. We’ll let Zola explain why:

“When it comes to booking your wedding venue, there’s no such thing as too early—only too late. Booking your venue early will take a lot of stress off your plate. You’ll be able to relax, knowing you have the cornerstone of your big day all figured out. You’ll also have an official wedding date to share with your wedding vendors and guests.”

Guests are more likely to say “yes” too

There are no major holidays during September, which means you’re more likely to get a “yes” from those RSVPs quickly.

Many guests will have jam-packed diaries during July and August, with families entertaining children also likely to be swamped. By scheduling a September wedding, they’ll be less competition from other weddings and holidays, so everyone you want to share your special day with can be there.

The lighting is great for photographs

Contrary to popular belief, the bright, light days of July and August don’t provide the very best conditions for wedding photography.

The days may be dry and longer but the lighting can be harsh and rather unflattering. Your wedding photographer will of course be well trained to deliver beautiful snap after beautiful snap, with their expertly honed techniques and professional accessories able to counter summer lighting challenges with ease. September on the other hand offers more flattering, softer lighting conditions that will enhance your wedding album no-end.
