5 fun gender-neutral games for your ‘sten’ do

Working as a team is a vital aspect of planning a wedding that represents you as a couple, but why should it just be your wedding that’s a reflection of you both?

‘Sten’ dos are the latest pre-wedding trend that has gripped the scene. A sten do is a joint hen and stag party, with both halves of the couple and their friends in attendance. Often referred to as a ‘hag’ party, the sten is a great option for couples with the same or intertwining friendship groups.

The wider wedding party will also reap the rewards of a sten do, with the VIPs of both the bride and groom able to work together and share the burden of hen/stag party planning. Sten dos are fantastic money savers too as Hitched explains:

“Rather than having two expensive weekends or events, if you choose to have a joint sten party with your partner you can pool all of your money and resources together for one memorable celebration… If you have lots of people attending your wedding who haven’t met before, hosting a sten do is a great way to introduce your nearest and dearest before the big day. Bring all of your friendship groups together for the ultimate wedding pre-drinks.”

For couples looking to embrace this more inclusive pre-wedding celebration, the following gender-neutral games make excellent ice breakers…

1. Design a wedding gown

If you’re looking for a cheap and cheerful party game with hilarious results, the design a wedding gown challenge will be a real winner with your sten do guests. All you need is some tulle fabric or toilet paper, and a keen eye for design! Give each team three minutes to create something worthy to be worn by the bride-to-be.

2. What’s on your phone?

With most people’s smartphones never too far away, it’s only natural to want to incorporate them into your sten party games.

The ‘what’s on your phone’ game can be personalised to the couple, with points awarded for various items. You may want to award 20 points to people who have a photo of the couple on their phone for instance. While single points can be given for every alarm set, photo taken today, or phone calls to parents.

3. Mr and Mrs

Whether it’s a Mr and Mrs, Mr and Mr or Mrs and Mrs you’ve gathered to celebrate, this game is a great way to test their knowledge of each other as well as find out so much more about the couple. Grab two handheld dry-erase paddle boards and markers to get started, along with a list of Mr and Mrs questions. The couple will score a point for every matching answer!

4. The survey says…

Putting your knowledge of relationships as a more general topic to the test is another option and one that could create significantly less tension between the happy couple!

This game requires a little more preparation, with the results of relevant surveys collated as the base of your quiz. Separate your party into teams before hitting them with the questions – the closest to each percentage answer wins!

5. Advice for the couple

Get all of your sten party guests to give their best piece of marriage advice to the couple. Later, ask the couple to guess which person gave which advice. It’s a great game that’ll really get you thinking!
